Swanson, Cindy Lee (Engagement - 1980)

Mr. and Mrs. George Swanson, Evergreen Park, Illinois, announced the engagement of their daughter, Cindy Lee, to William Joseph Verschay, son of Mrs. Jo Verschay and the late Joseph Verschay, Greenwood. Both are graduates of UW-Stevens Point and are employed by the U.S. Forest Service in Michigan. A Nov. 8 wedding in Greenwood is planned.

Swanson, Cindy Lee (8 November 1980)

Cindy Lee Swanson and Bill Verschay were united in marriage on Saturday late afternoon, November 8, in Greenwood’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple are the children of Mary and George Swanson, Evergreen Park, Illinois, and Mrs. Jo Verschay, Greenwood.

The Rev. Mertens officiated at the rites. After the bride was presented to the altar by her parents, special music, “Longer,” was performed by Suzanne Johnson and Rita Stewart.

Kathy Gulan, Coon Rapids, Mn., was maid of honor. She was joined by Amy Weisel of Spooner, Jeanie Verschay of Madison and Susan Schommer of Cleveland, Oh. Junior bridesmaid was Heidi Verschay of Greenwood.

Rick Verschay, Greenwood was bestman. He was joined by Jeff Buchegar of River Falls, Mike Fox of Greenwood and Jim Dergance of Hillsdale, Il. Ushering were Mary Jo Verschay of Virginia, MN., and Jim Swanson of Chicago.

The bride chose her mother’s wedding gown for her dress. It was of satin and featured a beaded front panel, all patterned after the gown of Queen Elizabeth. She also wore a veil of Mantilla lace with beaded border and carried a bouquet of white carnations, white roses and angel’s lace. Her attendants wore long, frost-colored dresses in a sleeveless style and with matching jackets. They carried an arm held arrangement of ferns and white gladiolas.

Following the service, a dinner-dance reception was held at the Greenwood American Legion Hall. The couple then left for a wedding trip to the Ashland area. The couple will make their home in Ashland.

The bride has a degree from UW-Stevens Point in forest management and is employed as a forester with the U.S. Forest Service. The broom also has a degree from the same university, his in-soil management and hydrology. He is a field agronomist with Midland Cooperatives.
