Helland, Carl B. (10 Mar. 1934 - 8 Nov. 2008)

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - Carl B. Helland, 74, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield surrounded by his family. He was born March 10, 1934 in Chippewa to Selmer Oscar and Lillian Dell (nee: Moore) Helland. He spent his early life and received his education in Chippewa County. On March 21, 1953 in Eau Claire, Carl was united in marriage to Betty Black. Following marriage they resided in Eau Claire before moving to the Burlington area in 1962. In 2001, Carl and Betty moved to a farm in Adams County where they resided for 17 years. They have been residents of Wisconsin Rapids for the past year. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed teasing his children and grandchildren. Carl loved to laugh and was known for his contagious laugh. He also loved to dance and enjoyed working outside with his hands. He enjoyed playing solitaire and bowling and was an avid Packer Fan and NASCAR Fan. Carl worked for Roberts Lumber for 27 years and was a member of Teamsters Union #43.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Helland of Wisconsin Rapids, their children, Terry Helland of Burlington, David (Lois) Helland of Schoolcraft, Mich., Tony (Janet) Helland of Burlington, Carla (Michael) Flammini of Wisconsin Rapids, and Karen (Jeff Winkler) Helland of Burlington; grandchildren, Erica Helland of Chicago, Ill., Danielle Hegeman of Burlington, Dan (Sabrina) Helland of Mich., Andrew (Amanda) Helland currently serving in Afghanistan, Katie Helland of Mich., Aaron Helland of Mich., Jarod (Amanda) Helland of Denver, Colo., Brian (Karen) Arnold of Burlington, Debbie Arnold of Burlington, Domonic (Jennifer) Flammini of Wisconsin Rapids, Makeal Flammini of Milwaukee, and Jenna (Jeremy) McDonald of Wisconsin Rapids, and by great-grandchildren, Lexi, Mariah, Jaiden, Dominic, Austin, Chase, Colton, Maliyah, and Michael.

Carl is further survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Lester) Kroll of New Richmond, Sharon (Harry) Miller of Holcombe, Jeannette Black of Cornell, and Dora (Bud) Correll of Holcombe, dear friends, Jack Hackey and Pat Zingshime, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Brandon Helland; one brother, Glenn Helland; sisters, Vivian Bauer and Eilean Correll; and by a brother-in-law, Lloyd Black.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Carolyn Sellers officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the church on Thursday, from 2 until 4 p.m.

Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, 611 W. Doege Street, Marshfield, WI 54449-1925. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Khan and his staff at the Marshfield Clinic as well as the Hope Lodge in Marshfield. They would also like to express a special thank you to all the family and friends for the love and support they showed Carl over the years. He loved you all.
