Quicker, Mr./Mrs. Hubert (50th Anniversary 11 June 1983)
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert H. (Nellie M.) Quicker of 1109 Hewett St., Neillsville, who
were married by the Rev. Paul B. White of the Methodist Church, Neillsville,
June 11, 1933 at the brides parental home in Clark County, celebrated the golden
anniversary of their marriage June 11 at the American Legion Hall, Neillsville.
Quicker was born November 15, 1910 to Mr. and Mrs. James G. (Louise Steinbach)
Quicker in the Town of Lynn. He attended Maple Grove Grade School and graduated
in 1928 from Marshfield McKinley High School. Before he married he did general
office work in Milwaukee from 1928-30 then road construction work until 1933.
Mrs. Quicker, the former Nellie M. Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
(Maggie West) Johnson, was born December 16, 1912 in Clark County. She attended
Sunbean Grade School, Granton High School and Neillsville Teachers Training
School. Before she married, she taught school two years in the Town of Lynn.
After their marriage, the Quickers spent a year in Granton, then the next 49 in
Neillsville. He did construction work for a year, was an accountant 15 years,
owned the Neillsville Dairy from 1950-58 and had the Accounting Service from
1959-80. His wife taught school for a year and did office work for several years
after the children were grown. Retirement came in 1982.
Their children are Hubert "Snick" Quicker, Altoona; Jerry L. Quicker, South
Milwaukee; Dennis Quicker, Washington D.c.; and Donald E. Quicker, Neillsville.
Another son, Terry D. Quicker, died in infancy in 1938. There are five
grandchildren.
Mrs. Beulah West Reimer of New Era, Michigan, an attendant at the 1933 wedding,
came for the occasion.
The Quickers are members of the United Church of Christ. He has been a member of
the Clark County Board of Supervisors for 33 years, 21 years as vice chairman
and nine as chairman until retiring from the board.
His hobbies are golfing, hunting, fishing and traveling; hers are handicraft,
card clubs, golfing and walking.
