Stewart, Alice (9 SEP 1919 - 1 DEC 1947)

Mrs. Earl Stewart, 28, Stanley, was instantly killed when thrown from a car driven by her husband when he lost control of the vehicle while traveling east on Highway 29 one mile east of Curtiss Corners (Clark Co., Wis.), and crashed into a power line pole.

Injured in the accident which occurred at 1 o’clock Monday morning, were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, Owen, who were brought to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield for treatment. Smith, 37, suffered scalp lacerations, a fracture of the right clavicle, and a chest injury, while Mrs. Smith, 30, suffered scalp lacerations and back injuries. Neither is seriously injured. Stewart escaped unhurt.

According to a report by Capt. William Nelson of the Clark County Traffic Department, the Stewart car skidded on the highway before rolling a distance of 135 feet in the ditch on the right side of the road and crashing into the pole. The vehicle, a 1947 model, was reported to be almost a total wreck.

Mrs. Stewart, the former Alice Rixford, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rixford. She was born in Stanley on Sept. 9, 1919 and was married to Earl Stewart on April 27, 1944. They have made their home in Stanley except for a period during which Stewart served in the armed forces.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stewart is survived by one sister, Mrs. Walter Quilling, Sidney, Mont., and two brothers, residing in Stanley.

Funeral services at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanley at two p.m. Thursday, will be conducted by the Rev. J. N. Midtlien.
