Olson, Gilbert B. (22 August 1908 – 13 February 1988) With Flag
Seventy-nine-year-old Gilbert B. Olson, of Rice Lake, died Saturday, February
13, 1988, at Lakeview Medical Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday,
February 16, at Bethany Lutheran Church; Rev. Allan Schoonover officiated with
interment in Nora Cemetery, Rice Lake.
He was born August 22, 1908, at Abbotsford, WI. On May 4, 1935, he married Helen
Lehman in Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and later served
in the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was Assistant
Postmaster in Rice Lake for a number of years. For a number of terms he served
as Rice Lake’s 6th Ward Alderman and had been involved in various city and
county committees, past member of the Barron County Board of Supervisors, Past
Executive Secretary of the Rice Lake Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the
Rice Lake Kiwanis Club in 1950 and their Past District Lieutenant Governor in
1953, Rice Lake American Legion, and a member of the Rice Lake Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Rice Lake; a son, David of Port Washington;
a daughter, Judy Friese of Rice Lake; six grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth of
Neillsville and Oluf of Wisconsin Rapids; four sisters, Barbara Daniels of
Cambria, Sally Schwarze and Fern Holt, both of Neillsville, Mildred Strossborger
of Mesa, AZ; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Appleyard’s Home for Funerals handled the arrangements.
