Grasser, Henry (4 July 1912 – 19 June 1988)

Henry F. Grasser, 75, of Merrillan died Sunday morning, June 19, at the Black River Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient the past week. Prior to that he had been at the Pine View Nursing Home in Black River Falls for about one month.

He was born July 4, 1912, in Chicago to Frank and Angelia (Weizorake) Grasser. He married Catherine Sopoci May 13, 1933, in Chicago. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1983. He had been an aircraft mechanic with Chrysler Aircraft Company in Chicago prior to their moving to Merrillan. In Chicago, he was also active with the Chicago Civil Air Patrol. They moved to Merrillan in September 1944 and he owned and operated Grasser’s Service Station and Garage there until retiring in April of 1983.

He was a member of the Masonic Order at Merrillan; a member of the Royal Chapter No. 41 of the Masons at Black River Falls; a member of the Eau Claire Shrine No. 14; the Neillsville Commandry and was a Past Master of the Merrillan Lodge. He also had held a Proficiency Card for teaching at the Lodge and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Chapter 160 at Merrillan. He also served as Area Administrator to this Masonic District.

Surviving is his wife, Catherine of Merrillan; two sons, H. “Skip” (and wife, Barbara) of Wis. Rapids and Duane (and wife, Kathleen) of Eau Claire; a brother, George of Tomah; three granddaughters and two great-granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Koranda.

Funeral services for Henry Grasser will be Wednesday, June 22, 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Merrillan, with the Rev. Anna Marie Balts officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan. Jensen Funeral Home, Hixton, handled arrangements.
