On Sunday, June 5, 1977, Mrs. Robert (Rachel) Hopkins of Monona, Wisconsin and
Mrs. Everett (Eloise) Jacobson of Janesville, Wisconsin had an open house
celebration at the Masonic Temple in Owen for their mother, Mrs. Carl (Louise)
Halverson, who is celebrating her 90th birthday.
There were one hundred and twenty-five relatives and friends from the cities in
Wisconsin, including, Owen, Withee, Black River Falls, Onalaska, La Crosse,
Strum, Sun Prairie, Dallas, Sand Creek, Rice Lake, Barron, Phillips, Stanley,
Medford, Greenwood, Athens, Perkinstown, Eau Claire, Abbotsford, Oshkosh, Colby,
Wausau, Dorchester, Monona, Janesville, and Buffalo, Minnesota, to wish Louise a
happy birthday.
The Halverson family moved to Withee in 1913 from Bright, Wisconsin. In Withee
Louise became active in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church as choir director and
substitute organist and Sunday School teacher. She became a member of the
Rebecca and Royal Neighbor Lodges, becoming District President for the Rebecca
Lodge in 1931. She held subordinate offices from 1916 to 1934.
In 1922 the family moved to Owen and Louis became an active member in the
Norwegian Lutheran Church, both as choir director and Sunday school teacher, and
Ladies Aid President.
In 1927 the family moved to Loyal and continued as an active participant in the
church.
In 1931 the family moved back to Owen, where Louis continued to be active in the
church. In 1937 she became a member of the Owen Eastern Star Chapter, and became
Worth Matron in 1942 and 1943. She has been Installing Marshall for twenty
years.
In 1946 she became a member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church. Louise was
President of the Guild in 1954 and Treasurer of the Guild since 1955, and holds
that office to date.
