On Sunday evening, June 12, 1977, Vonnie Marscheck, a missionary to Indonesia,
presented a report on the work of mission in the vast island country of
Indonesia. This will be her last presentation to her home church, the Owen
Alliance Church, before she returns to the mission field in July.
In her talk she told of a native of one of the islands, who has been working for
over thirty-vive years in the mountains bringing the gospel to the people who
live there. She reported that during his thirty-vie years he has caused the
establishment of many churches. Even through the persecution during the period
of Japanese Occupation during World War II, this Christian missionary worked to
establish churches among the people.
After her talk she showed many slides taken in this island nation. She reported
that there are about 13,000 islands in this nation, but only about 3,000 are
inhabited.
She reported that the hardest area for missionaries in the nation of Indonesia
is in the urban areas. The missionaries have been active and successful with the
gospel in the rural areas, but he urban areas have not been open to the gospel,
and few churches have been established there.
This week Vonnie Marscheck is conducting an adult class at the Owen Alliance
Vacation Bible School session. She is the daughter of Mrs. C. E. Beck of Owen.
The Owen Alliance Church is her home church. She has been on a six month
furlough and is due to return on or about July 5, 1977.
