Press Takes National Award (1980)
Continuing a long tradition, The Press learned this week that it had earned a
national award in a contest sponsored by the National Newspaper Association (NNA).
The award is to be presented this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri, at the annual
convention of NNA.
Winner of the award was a sports feature written by former Press assistant
editor, Paul Srubas. The item detailed his experiences in running a marathon.
According to the judge. “A high percentage of sports writers run distance races
at some point then write about it, but certainly a very small percentage present
it as Srubas does. Excellent device for a very long story. Bravo!
A record number of entries were reported for the national contest. (The Press
has accumulated 18 state and national awards in the last 8 1/2 years, covering
the gamut of newspapering
Srubas is now a reporter for the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern after working for
The Press for nearly two years.
