Don Hutman phoned the Owen Enterprise office that he saw something landing in his field at about 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 1977 while eating supper. Thinking it might be something flying here from a tornado, he later walked to the field to pick it up. The balloon had burst and the paper floating down had this inscription on it.

This balloon symbolizes radioactive fallout and was released near the proposed Tyrone, Wisconsin nuclear facility on Saturday, August 6, 1977. The fallout from the nuclear accident may travel this far. How far did your balloon travel? Please let us know by mailing back this card. Radiation has been shown to cause cancer, even in tiny amounts. Releases from small amount of radioactive material from nuclear facilities are routiene. Did you realized they come this far?”

Don returned the card saying he found it at 5:50 on August 6 located on the Donald Hutman farm 50 miles east on highway 29 from Eau Claire.
