U. S. Honor Flag to Fly in Chippewa County
An American Flag that flew over “Ground Zero” in New York City following the September 11, 2001 terrorists’ attack will be enroute to Chippewa County this week. This flag originated in Texas and was taken to “Ground Zero” during the recovery and cleanup efforts there.
This flag is a piece of American History, and since September 11, 2001, has flown during memorials around the United States and foreign countries in memory of our fallen armed services personnel, law enforcement, and fire-fighters.
The Honor Flag is being flown in honor of Deputy Sheriff Jason S. Zunker, who died January 5, 2008 due to injuries he suffered in the line of duty on January 4, 2008 in Chippewa County near Bloomer.
It is scheduled to arrive today, January 23, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and be transferred to Chippewa County under law enforcement escort. It will be raised at half mast in the cul de sac entrance to the County Courthouse in Chippewa Falls during a short ceremony on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. It will fly at that location until Friday, January 25, 2008 at 8:00 a.m.
