Below, Fred (1 Dec. 1867 - 25 Aug. 1945)
Spencer - Fred Below, 77, who lived in the Village of Spencer the past four years, died at 7:30 o’clock Saturday night at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was a patient the past three weeks. The body will lie in state at the Swarthout Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 o’clock, followed by a 2 o’clock service at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. A. C. Stapel will have charge of the rites, and burial will be made in the Spencer cemetery.
Mr. Below, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthias Below, was born in Pomerania, Germany, Dec. 1, 1867, and was married at Spencer in 1892 to Bertha Luepke, who preceded him in death in 1933. He lived in the Spencer vicinity for more than 60 years and was active in civic affairs, having been a member of the School and Town Boards for many years.
Surviving are 12 children, Mrs. Harry (Frieda) Deering, Marshfield; Ernest Below, Beloit; Herman Below, Stanley; Mrs. Fred (Martha) Foth, Mrs. Emil (Minnie) Karau, and Martin Below, all of Spencer; Mrs. Russell (Adela) Stoup, Marshfield; Carl and Ray Below, both of Milwaukee; Mrs. Clarence (Laura) Schallock, Escanaba, Mich.; Mrs. Henry (Ella) Kalkopf, Sheldon; and Mrs. George (Ruth) Ball, Madison.
Also surviving are 10 grand-children and three great-grand-children.
