Gross, Rose (26 Sept. 1925 - 21 Apr. 2008)
Rose Gross, 82, recently of the town of McMillan, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008, at The House of the Dove.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Fisher Farm in Omaha, Neb. A memorial service in Marshfield will be arranged at a later date. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Rose was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., to Morris and Sarah Epstein. She was the youngest of four children and the first to be born in the United States. During her formative years, Rose was active in the choir at Beth El Synagogue. She was on the swim team at Central High School, and was an avid participant in theater productions. She worked at Strategic Air Command in Omaha after high school. She was married to Joel M. Gross in 1945 until his death in 2001. Rose's life after marriage was marked by a series of moves for her husband's job. She left friends in all the diverse places she resided, New Orleans, La., Cleveland, Ohio, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Los Angeles, Calif., and Vista, Calif.
Golf became her passion. She was one of the founding members of the W.A.G.A. and its first president. She loved all sports, and even after she could no longer participate, loved to watch golf, baseball, tennis and ice-skating.
The past year was very hard for her. She had to move away from her home in California and give up her car and driving. But she moved in to her daughter's home, and got to know her grandchildren well, as well as her son-in-law, which gave her great pleasure.
She will be missed by her daughter, Jody Gross (Goldberg), her son-in-law, Jerry Goldberg, grandsons Benjamin, Eli and Jacob Goldberg; her brother, Simon Epstein and her sister, Ida Richards; as well as the many friends and relatives she leaves behind.
Donations may be sent in her honor to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Mt. Sinai Congregation in Wausau.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of 8 North, the House of the Dove, and Drs. Przybilinski, Williams, and Okun for the wonderful care she received.
