Hoops, Margaret J. (2 Feb. 1918 - 29 Oct. 1999)
Margaret J. Hoops, 81, of 1505 S. Locust Ave., died at 7:45 p.m., Oct. 29, 1999, at the Marshfield Center where she had resided since Oct. 13, 1999.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony J. Wolf, pastor, officiating. Helen Brinkmann will be the organist for John E. Binder and James W. Eckes, vocalists.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Huber, Elroy Huber, David Huber and Michael Huber.
Friends and relatives may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Chapel and again until time of services Tuesday, also at the funeral chapel. A Sacred Heart Parish Council of Catholic Women Rosary will be at 5 p.m. followed by a Sacred Heart Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m., both at the funeral chapel. Mrs. Hoops was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Marshfield, the daughter of Charles and Blanche (nee Burley) Smith. She was married on Nov. 23, 1949, to Wilbur V. Hoops in Spencer.
She attended Marshfield elementary schools and McKinley High School. Following her high school education Margaret began working at Consumer Department Store in Marshfield and later at the Boston Store in Oshkosh. After her marriage to Wilbur, the couple moved to Spencer in 1951. Margaret and Wilbur then moved to Marshfield in 1984.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart PCCW. She also was president of the Spencer Unit 298 of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son, Darrell (and his fiancee Mary Howe) Hoops of Rockford, Ill., and Mary's son, Matthew Harris, her daughter, Cherly Hoops of Marshfield; her grandchildren Michelle (William) King, Joey Hoops and Christina Hoops; two great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Mary Cuevas.
She was predeceased by her husband on July 7, 1989; her parents; and by three brothers, Robert, Gordon and Richard.
