McCumber, Joann (19 Feb. 1938 - 10 Apr. 2008)

WESTON -- Joann McCumber, 70, of 6009 Schofield Ave., Weston, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Wausau.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1938, in Marshfield, to the late Alphonse and Alvina (Knoeck) Spaeth. Joann married Don "Pickles" McCumber on Oct. 13, 1983, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Callon.

She was employed with Home Interiors. "Grandma Pickles" enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school events and sports activities and was a volunteer at the elementary school. She loved her family and loved being around people. She enjoyed gardening, camping, playing cards, watching birds, and playing bingo at the casino.

Survivors include her husband, Don "Pickles" McCumber, Weston; three sons, Jeff (Paphaporn) McHugh, Mosinee, John (Mary) McHugh, Mosinee, and Alan (Betty) McHugh, Halder; stepson, Mark (Penny) McCumber, Medford; three brothers, Larry (Rose) Spaeth, Sheboygan, Gilbert (Lois) Spaeth, Marshfield, and Gerald (Donna) Spaeth, Spencer; one sister, Ellen Connor, Rothschild; sister-in-law, Helen Spaeth, West Bend; eight grandchildren, Tanapong Panya, Nicole Gaulke, Phil (Brenda) Halvorson, Dana (Karl) Wrobel, and Kyle, Kacee, Kody and Kalan McHugh; and six great-grandchildren, Austin Goode, Luke and Logan Gaulke, Desi Oertel, Jaiger Halvorson and Beau Wrobel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Harold Spaeth, an infant sister, and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Spaeth.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6101 Zinser St., Weston. The Rev. Joseph Rafacz will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brainard Funeral Home Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Don McCumber for the Joann McCumber Memorial Fund at River Valley Bank, Weston.
