SPENCER - Gerald E. Schwantes, 54, Route 1, Spencer, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer. The Rev. David Ault will officiate. Pallbearers will be Erland Schweke, Elmer Bruss, DuWayne Gropp, Gary Palmerton, Eldore Seefeldt and Robert Helsten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m Friday at the Rux Funeral Home, Spencer.
Mr. Schwantes was born April 4, 1931, in Spencer, to Leota (Andre) Schwantes and the late Emil Schwantes. He attended the Town of Brighton schools. He married Dorothy Haslow June 23, 1951. She survives.
He farmed all of his life. He had been a constable for the Town of Brighton and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was also a church elder.
Surviving besides his wife and mother are two sisters, Mrs. Verner (Vila) Oelrich, Hudson, Fla., and Mrs. Carolyn Hopfensperger, Junction City; three brothers, Arlyn and Robert, both of Spencer, and Roger, Marshfield.
He was predeceased by his father, one brother, and one sister.
