Schwantes, Gordon (22 Mar. 1927 - 23 June 1987)
Wisconsin RAPIDS - Former Spencer area resident, Gordon Schwantes, 60, Wisconsin Rapids, died at 2:56 a.m. Tuesday at Riverview Hospital, Wisconsin Rapids.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Taylor Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. Andrew Karoblis officiating. The body will be cremated and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-2:30 p.m. Monday.
He was born March 22, 1927, in Spencer, to Edwin and Adelia Schwantes. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He married Loretta Jozwiak Sept. 4, 1948, in Stratford. She died Sept. 14, 1977. He farmed in the Spencer area until 1958, when he moved to Wisconsin Rapids. He was a self-employed carpenter in home construction.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Pierson, Dorothy Thompson and Linda Lietzke, all of Wisconsin Rapids; a brother, Dale of Minnesota; five sisters, Ruth Schade and Anita Griepentrog, both of Spencer, Betty Scholl, Patricia Regal and Ione Miller, all of Marshfield; and five grandchildren.
