Spencer - Herman Schwantes, 86, a resident of Spencer for the past 70 years, died at 5:30 o’clock Friday morning, Feb. 12, at his home in the Village of Spencer.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:45 o’clock at the Swarthout Funeral Home and at 2 o’clock at the Lutheran Church, the Rev. A. C. Stapel officiating. Burial will take place in West Spencer cemetery.

Mr. Schwantes, a retired farmer, was born in Germany Jan. 17, 1857, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schwantes. He was married in the Town of Brighton in 1880. His wife and three children, Frank, Fred and John, have preceded him in death.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Anna) Griepentrog, Spencer; Mrs. Len (Dora) Nickel, Unity; Mrs. Alex (Sophia) Ohlgren, Minneapolis; Mrs. Elmer (Elizabeth) Nelson, Chippewa Falls; and Mrs. John (Margaret) Izydorek, Minneapolis; one son, George Schwantes, Spencer; one sister, Mrs. Ernest Rindfleisch, Jefferson; one brother, Charles Schwantes, Minneapolis; and 31 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
