Schwantes, Louise Meta Hattie (13 Sept. 1892 - 7 June 1979)
SPENCER - Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church for Mrs. George (Louise) Schwantes, 86, of 209 W. Main St. She was dead on arrival at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
Burial will be at West Spencer Cemetery. The Rev. William H. Ruhbusch will officiate. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Rux Funeral Home.
The former Louise Meta Hattie Wellnitz was born to Mr. and Mrs. Karl (Augusta) Wellnitz Sept. 13, 1892 at Reeseville, where she was educated. She was married to George Schwantes Dec. 5, 1912 at Spencer.
The couple farmed in the town of Brighton until 1942. They observed their 65th wedding anniversary in December 1977.
Mrs. Schwantes was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid and American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, eight sons, Donald of Route 1, Spencer, George Jr. of Myrtle Creek, Ore., John of Janesville, Leonard of Friday Harbor, Wash., Elmer and Karl, both of Anchorage, Alaska, Frank of Hawaii, and William of Port Edwards; two daughters, Mrs. Violet Lien of Janesville, and Mrs. Carolyn Melim of Westmont, Ill.; 33 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
