Hoops, Mr./Mrs. John (50th Anniv. - 29 Feb. 1928)

Spencer, Feb. 29. - Mr. and Mrs. John Hoops, residents of this village the past 10 years, observed their golden wedding anniversary Tuesday with a jubilee ceremony in Trinity Lutheran church at 2 o’clock. The Rev. A. C. Stapel, pastor of the congregation, officiated. Following the service, an elaborate dinner was served to relatives and intimate friends by the Trinity Ladies’ Aid society in the church dining hall.

John Hoops and Miss Pauline Natzke, both of Wayside, Brown county, were married in that community Feb. 28, 1878, and lived there on a farm until 1899, when they came to Marathon county and settled on a farm one mile south of Spencer. Here they continued to make their home until 1918, since when they have resided in the village, where they are highly esteemed. Mr. Hoops conveys the mail between the post office and the trains, and Mrs. Hoops, besides attending to her own household duties, finds time to assist others.

Of the 13 children born to this worthy couple, the following 11 are still alive and were present at the celebration Tuesday: August Hoops, Mrs. William Plath, Mrs. Frank Martin and Herbert Hoops, Spencer; Mrs. Albert Vanderhoof, Martin Hoops, Mrs. Fred Luepke, Mrs. H. Mellenthin and Erwin Hoops, residing on farms near Spencer; the latter on the home place; Henry Hoops, Moon and Mrs. H. Molle, Unity. At the festivities Tuesday Mrs. Hoops recalled the fact that she attended the golden wedding celebration of her parents 23 years ago last October.
