"Doc" Pupp, 38, of Stratford, died Monday, March 31, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit of Saint Joseph's Hospital with his loving family by his side. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Eric's life will be held at noon Sunday (Memorial Day Weekend), May 25, 2008. The celebration will be held at Eric's home, 415 Sturm Road in Stratford where "Everybody Will Get A Hug." Hansen Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Eric Duane Pupp was born Dec. 12, 1969, in Madison, a son of Duane J. and Mary J. (Fitzel) Pupp. At an early age he moved to Stratford and attended and graduated from Stratford High School and Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire. While in high school, "Doc" enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, stationed in Marshfield from 1987 to 1993. Eric was a self-employed carpenter and at the time of his death, employed at A&B Process Systems in Stratford. Eric loved to be with people and live life to the fullest. He enjoyed motorcycles, cars, canoeing, hunting, woodworking, being outdoors and the Packers and don't forget those campfires.
A close friend wrote this about Eric; "If it was broke - Eric could fix it. If it wasn't broken, he'd eventually break it accidentally and would have to fix it later anyway.
If a hug was needed, his arms were open wide.
If you were sad, he'd pester you until you laughed or became mad enough to strangle him - but at least you weren't sad anymore.
If there was turmoil, somehow Eric could make peace.
If it didn't make sense, he'd tweak it until he could make sense of it (whether it made sense to anyone else or not.)
If you needed something, Eric could build it - even if it took forever and a day.
If it was a rule, he'd break it or find a logical way around it.
If a story's being told, and it has the words: emergency room, broken, crashed, jumped/barn roof/umbrella, how in the ...!! Eric is mentioned in it somewhere.
Eric didn't follow blueprints to build houses, and certainly didn't follow blueprints to build his legacy. Any unfortunate soul who happened to judge him on his choice of clothing or his simple ways and manner completely missed the opportunity to stand in the presence of an Angel from the highest order."
