Marlene C. Swenson, age 72 of Stoughton, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2009, at Stoughton Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Marathon on July 27, 1936, a daughter of the late Matthew and Marion (Rajek) Butalla. On May 9, 1959, she was united in marriage to Clayton Swenson in Stoughton.

Marlene loved to read, knit, crochet, needlepoint, go to yard sales, and enjoyed coffee with her friends. She loved her flowers and birds. Marlene was very meticulous in her job as Nurse’s Aid, and later, as unit clerk at Stoughton Hospital, where she worked for over 25 years. Marlene loved her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a caring and giving person who always thought of others.

She is survived by her children, Scott, Mike (Cathy), Brian, Dan (Karen), Lori (Pete) Vike, Tim (Michelle) and Tom (April); grandchildren, Cortney, Matt, Danielle, Chelcie, Megan, Keely, Taylor, Zach, Kelsey, Ben, Bobby, Hayle, Lee, and Savannah; a great-granddaughter, Ani; two sisters, Sharon Palan and Sandy (Butch) Schuller; a brother, Tom (Mickey) Butalla; two brothers-in-law, Jim Strasser and Bob Swenson; and a sister-in-law, Edith Swenson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, in 1983; a sister, Carol Strasser; two brothers-in-law, Tom Palan and Lee Swenson; and a sister-in-law, Frances Swenson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Stoughton, with Monsignor Gerard Healy officiating.

The family will greet friends at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., and again at church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Special thanks to Stoughton Hospital, HospiceCare, and to Margo and Arlene.
