Hoffman, Uldine M. (30 Oct. 1919 - 7 May 2009)

CORNELL -- Uldine M. Hoffman, 89, a resident of the Cornell Area Care Center, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

She was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Stratford to August and Pauline (Myer) Schnelle. She grew up on a farm in Stratford and graduated from the Stratford High School. During that time, she and a friend entertained at many civic functions and barn dances. Uldine could yodel, and she and her friend were invited to perform in Chicago on the WLS radio station.

After high school, Uldine attended beauty school in Milwaukee. Throughout her life, she worked as a beautician and also taught cosmetology. Uldine married Clarence Hoffman in May 1939 in Iowa. Together they built Hoffman's Beauty and Barber Shop in Cornell. Uldine was a very active person and was a wonderful seamstress and had made more than 100 quilts for family and friends. She loved to play bridge and she and Clarence were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cornell.

Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie (Richard) Zinsli of Cornell, Betty (Bud) Flagstad of East Bethel, Minn., Beverly Hoffman of Little Canada, Minn.; one brother, Norman (Edna) Schnelle of Wausau; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Clarence Hoffman Jr.; one granddaughter, Lisa Hoyland; one sister, Joyce Niemeyer; and two companions, Glen Martin and Elmer Hoffman.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, at the Borton Funeral Home in Cornell. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in rural Stratford.
