Notice
Rose Marie (Rosie) Williams of Idaho Falls died on July 1, 2009, at EIRMC after a protracted battle with cancer.
Rose Marie was born on March 13, 1933 in Athens, Wisconsin, to George and Lily Hopperdietzel.
She grew up on her family's dairy farm with 7 sisters and 2 brothers and attended Trinity Lutheran School as a youngster. She graduated from Athens High School in 1950. In 1951 she came west to Idaho with her cousin Paul Hopperdietzel to visit her aunt and uncle's cheese factory in St. Anthony.
Enjoying her time in Idaho, she decided to stay and shared a room with her lifelong friend Ruby Metcalf in Idaho Falls. Ruby eventually introduced Rose Marie to her future husband, Don Williams, in 1953, while he was visiting Idaho in conjunction with his work for Westinghouse and the Atomic Energy Commission. The two were married on April 17, 1954, in Elko, NV, and spent time living in Pittsburg before eventually relocating to Idaho Falls in 1957 where she spent the rest of her life. Rose Marie and Don eventually adopted two sons, George and Bill, in 1967.
After her husband's retirement in 1975, Rose Marie traveled extensively with Don and her family. In her lifetime Rose Marie traveled to all 50 States, several provinces of Canada, and Mexico. Rose Marie and Don's first big adventurous trip was their delayed honeymoon to Cuba in 1956. But their favorite destinations included Craters of the Moon, Yellowstone Park, and Jackson Hole.
Rose Marie loved children and was an active neighborhood babysitter. She was a
volunteer and sometimes employee of the childcare center at Skyline High School in the early 1990s. Rose Marie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was very active in the Lutheran Braille Workers Association; leading the St. John chapter of this organization for over 20 years. Rose Marie was very proud of the work that this organization does.
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Alice Hambert.
She is survived by her 2 sons, George, of Troy, ID; Bill, of Idaho Falls; 6 sisters, Nila Roesler of Wausau, WI; Elva Krombholz of Ft. Meyers, FL; Muriel Berghammer of Wausau, WI; Ardel Knab of Great Falls, MT; Barbara Dolley of Prescott AZ; Emily Brindle of Huntington Beach, CA; and 2 brothers Gordon Hopperdietzel of Rapid City, SD; and Arlon Hopperdietzel of Montgomery, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church, 290 7th Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Jerry Reinke, officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held after the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Lutheran Brail
Workers Association and may be let at the church.
