At six o'clock Friday morning, forty-four men inducted intothe Army and Navy through the North Wood County Selective Service Board here, left for active duty. Navymen reported to the Navy Recruiting office in Milwaukee to be assigned to Great Lakes, Ill. or Faragut, Idaho. The men selected for the army service reported to Fort Sheidan, Ill.
Kenneth O. Olsinski, former city editor of the News-Herald, was in charge of the Navy group and Stewart (Hooney) Smith was in charge of the Army men.
(Then followed a list of all the men. 14th in the Army list was Machtan)
