Plath, Reinhold (23 Feb. 1863 – 3 Oct. 1923)
Reinhold Plath was born in Nahausen, Brandenburg Germany, February 23, 1863, coming directly to Spencer Wisconsin arriving here July 11th.
He was united in marriage to Miss Ernestine Varney March 28, 1886 and four children were born to this union, all of whom survive. They made their home in this village for 15 years and then moved onto a farm, two miles south of Spencer, where they resided for 23 years. Last month he sold his farm to his son Herman Plath, and moved to this village. Ill health causing the change, July 25, he was taken to the Marshfield hospital, where he underwent an operation which was successful and he returned to his home, where he continued to improve for a week. He had a relapse and on September 9, he was taken to the hospital and found to be suffering from cancer. He failed gradually, until Oct. 3, 8:10 A.M. Wednesday death came as a release from his suffering.
He was a member of the German Lutheran church in Spencer for 38 years and lived a fine Christian life.
Of him it can be truly said that he lived up to the commandment to "Love they neighbor as thyself," he was always ready to help those who needed it, and his many kind deed and words of sympathy will always be remembered by his many friends and neighbors who will miss him.
He left to mourn his loss his wife, two sons, Wm. of Spencer and Mrs. A. Wagner of Evanston, and Mildred Plath of Spencer and Ernest Plath in Germany
The Pall bearers were, Chas. Dittman, Marian Ballas, John Neidlein, Dr. Chas. Andre, Chas. Krammer Sr. and John Hoops.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the residence and at the Lutheran Church at 2:00 P.M. with interment in the Spencer cemetery.
