Riske, Elizabeth (Marriage – 17 Sept. 1936)
Lovely lace gowns in pastel shades were worn by the attendants of Miss Elizabeth
Riske, Athens, whose marriage to Henry Gumz, son of Mrs. Anna Gumz, Town of
Holton, took place at three o’clock Thursday afternoon, Sept. 17, in an
impressive ceremony at the Lutheran church in Athens, the Rev. William Reuter
officiating.
The bride and her little flower girl were attired in white lace. The bride’s
veil of tulle fell in a long train from a turban head dress and she carried a
bouquet of autumn flowers. The maid of honor, Miss Clara Riske, was attired in
orchid lace. Two of the bridesmaids, Miss Ella Gumz, Holton, and Miss Renata
Riske, Athens, were in green lace and the other two bridesmaids, Miss Mildred
Mueller and Miss Martha Stargarth, Athens in yellow lace. Their arm bouquets
were composed of autumn flowers.
A reception for 250 guests was held later in the day in the Town of Rietbrock at
the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riske. Decorations were
flowers and streamers of orchid, green and white. A dance was given at the
Trianon Gardens. They will reside on the groom’s farm in the Town of Holton,
about four miles west of Milan.
