Wilhelm Marten (14 Dec 1841 - 19 Feb 1921)
The Unity, Wisconsin farmer, William Marten was born in Gross-Justin, Pommern, Germany; the son of Carl Marten. In 1870 he and Bertha Gentz (b. 4 Jan 1850) were married. She was the daughter of Carl Gentz and she died 20 Jul 1908, at the age of fifty-eight of blood poisoning. William died the year he would have turned eighty, 19 Feb 1921, from a pulmonary disorder likely caused from*chronic Nephritis. Both are buried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, North Spencer, Wis.
*Chronic nephritis, is a kidney disease resulting in damage to the organ. It can be caused by a variety of factors, particularly issues with the immune system, however, the causes are often unknown. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs. It is one of the only arteries (other than the umbilical arteries in the fetus) that carry deoxygenated blood.
