Martin, Nellie Bertha Pauline (1 Nov. 1918 – 12 Apr. 1926)

Early in the morning of April 12th, little Nellie Martin,, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Martin "launched to the worlds unseen. So quickly and unexpectedly did death come upon her that the bereft parents and brothers find it hard to become reconciled to the bitter truth that Nellie has left them. Funeral services were conducted on April 15th in Trinity Lutheran Church. The pastor spoke on Ps.23, verse 1. The children of Trinity school sang an appropriate hymn. The entire second grade of the Spencer Public school of which class Nellie was a member, Ruth Ingham and four of Nellie's cousins served as flower girls. The floral tribute was extraordinary and profuse. Norman Haslow, Randolph Facklam, James Christensen and Franklin Seitz acted as pall bearers. The audience was large and sympathetic. Internment was made in the village cemetery.

Out of town attendants were: Mr. and Mrs. Anna Kneer, Madison, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoops, Moon, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Wm Martin, Edg, Wis. .and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Riplinger of Riplinger, Wis.

Nellie Bertha Pauline Martin was born on Nov. 1, 1918 in the town of Sherman, Clark County and for more than two years lived with her parents here at Spencer, where she made and kept a host of friends among old and young. Her immediate survivors are the grief stricken parents and lonely brother, Vern. She was lovable and sweet in disposition: cheerful and companiable in work and play. In mind she was alert; in habits regular in manners winning; and in speech kind and considerate. In fine she was a little girl who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Just before sinking into dreamless sleep, called death she said.

"Now I lay be down to sleep, I pray Thee Lord my soul to keep If I should die before I wake, I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to take, And this I ask for Jesus' sake."

May the sorrowing parents now say: "Though we loved her as Thou knowest dearly though we love her still; Greater love, Lord, Thou bestowest, and we bless They Gracious Will."

IN MEMORIAM

Dear Nellie she has left us To go to heaven as we knew Where there's no pain and sorrow, But only joy you know. God bless my dear brother, For he'll miss me I know But if he lives up to Jesus, I'll meet him up in high Remember now dear parents, Where your darling Nellie is And you again shall meet her, In eternity From an Aunt

Another little lamb has gone To dwell with him who gave Another little darling child is sheltered in her grave God needed one more angle child Amidst his shinning band And so he bent with loving care And clasped over Nellie's hand This lovely bird so young and fair Called hence by early dawn Gone to see how sweet the flowers In Paradise do bloom Where we have this word of Changes We shall find our missing loved one In our father's Mansion there. In Memoriam of Nellie Martin

I cannot say, and I will not say That she is dead--she is just away! With a cherry smile and a wave of her hand, She has wondered into an unknown land; And left us dreaming how vary fair it needs must be since she lingers there And you - O You who so widely yearn For the old time step an the glad return, Think of her faring on as ear in the love of there as the love of here Think of her still as the same I say; She is not dead-she is just away From an Aunt
