SPENCER--S. E. BROOKS INJURED (20 Jan. 1881)

S. E. Brooks undertook to caress the belt that drives the saw in Robinson's mill last Friday, but the thing resented such advances in a very spiteful manner. The belt moves very rapidly and as Mr. Brooks head came in contact with the concern it caught his hat and threw it into the upper story of the mill, and sawed a hole in the scalp, throwing him forward, causing him to strike his face on a slab which had just come from the saw, injuring his mouth and teeth somewhat. Mr. Brooks wears his head in a sling now, though he has nearly recovered from the injury.
