Herbert Manson Dies at Wausau
Revenue Collector for the Western District of Wisconsin Succumbs to Erysipelas
Wausau, Wis., April 30 – Herbert H. Manson, collector of internal revenue of the western district of Wisconsin, died yesterday of erysipelas. He leaves a widow and one adopted child.
He was born in 1872. He was graduated from the University of Wisconsin law school in 1896, and removed to Wausau, where he became a member of the law firm of Bump and Manson. He married Miss Dye, daughter of Dr. Dye former mayor of Madison.
Mr. Manson was elected chairman of the Marathon County democratic committee in the early part of 1900. He served three terms as city attorney, and one as district attorney. He was state chairman of the Democratic Party from 1906 to 1909. He conducted the state campaign in 1908.
In 1906 he was elected chairman of the democratic state central committee. He was a delegate at large from Wisconsin to the Denver national convention in 1908.
Mr. Manson retired from the chairmanship of the state democratic committee in 1910 and was succeeded by Joseph E. Davies and other Wilson supporters. He was at the Chicago headquarters during most of that campaign.
On the inauguration of President Wilson the latter recognized his activities by appointing him internal revenue collector of the western district.
Mr. Manson was a Mason. He was largely interested in timber lands in the south and in this ate, also in farm lands and real estate locally.
