John A. Schwartz (1880 - 1961)

Funeral rites for John A., Schwartz, 80, were held in Abbotsford Tuesday, with interment in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Evangelist Peter Hunter officiated at the services in the Abbotsford Village Hall at 1:30 in the afternoon. Lulloff Funeral Home of Colby had charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schwartz, who died at his home in Colby Saturday evening, was born in Austria on June 15, 1880. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of three and they settled on a farm near Stetsonville. He and Ida Wolf were married here on October 29, 1907. They resided on a farm three miles north and four miles west of this village for eight years, and then moved to a neighboring farm, which they operated until moving to Colby in 1942. He had resided there since.

Surviving are his widow; six children, Eddie of Watertown, S. D.; Selma, at home; Clara (Mrs. Arvid Carlson), Abbotsford; Anna (Mrs. Adolph Behnke), Cecil; Elmer, Lodi Calif; and Harvey, Glenwood City; fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A daughter, Lauraine, died in 1923 at age eight. Two sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.
