Funeral
services for Martin Springer, 58, were held from Peace Evangelical and Reformed
church here (Dorchester, Clark Co., WI) this afternoon. The Rev. Fred W.
Kollath, pastor, officiated at the rites at 1:30 o’clock. Mrs. Jerome Rankl was
organist and accompanied a quartet comprised of Misses Ruth Kruger, Sharon
Sauter, Joanne Martins and Donna Doberstein who sang “Rock of Ages” and “In the
Garden.”
Burial was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery under the direction
of Fuchsgruber Funeral Service, which had charge of arrangements. Pall-bearers
were Clarence Rankl, Paul Tischendorf, Carl Habeck, Otto Genrich, Henry Rau and
Emil Untiedt.
Mr. Springer died unexpectedly at his home in the town of
Holton Saturday night at 10:10 o’clock. Death followed a heart attack.
Martin Emil Springer was born Sept. 3, 1899, in Polsnitz, Germany. He immigrated
into this country Jan. 3, 1923, and immediately applied for citizenship, and
became a citizen of his adopted country in November of 1928. He and Bertha
Bittner were married Oct. 25, 1927, in Christ Evangelical and Reformed church,
Athens. They resided in the Athens community eight (four) years, then moving to
the farm in the town of Holton where they have resided the past 26 years.
Surviving are his widow, five children: Leona (Mrs. Roy Ridderbusch),
Hadlock, Wash.; Elsie (Mrs. Neal Ridderbusch), Donald and Delilah, all of
Milwaukee, and Lawrence, at home. Five grandchildren also survive, as does a
sister, Mrs. Augusta Seibert, residing in Germany. His parents and two brothers,
Henry and Herman, preceded him in death.
