Herman H. Drews (23 Jun1899 - 31

Herman H. Drews, 61 died Friday, March 31, in University
hospital, Madison, where he was taken a couple weeks ago for treatment of a
heart condition. He had been in ill health the past couple years, and
hospitalized intermittently the past six months. He was taken to Madison for
surgery, which was done Tuesday. Death came at 4:45 a.m. Friday.
Funeral
services were held from Salem Evangelical United Brethren church here
(Dorchester, Clark Co., WI) Monday. The Rev. Harold Welch, pastor officiated at
the rites at 2 p.m. Mrs. George Edwards and Miss Linda Wigstadt sang “The Old
Rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset”. Mrs. L. D. Sorenson, organist for the
rites, played accompaniment for the singers.
Sherman Loos of Colby served
as master of Abbotsford Lodge No. 298, Free and Accepted Masons, to conduct
Masonic funeral rites in the Fuchsgruber funeral parlors Sunday night at 8
o’clock.
Burial was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery under the direction
of Fuchsgruber Funeral Service which had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers
were Carl Braun, Henry Rau, Ernest Johnson, W. C. Pinter, Nick Schumacher and
Paul Tischendorf.
Herman Henry Drews was born in Marion Springs, Mich.,
on June 23, 1899. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1918 to 1922. In 1919,
he and Margaret Whalen were married in Philadelphia, Pa. She died March 7, 1951.
He remarried April 19, 1952, with Mrs. Sarah Blank in Downers Grove, Ill. She
survives.
Surviving besides the widow are a son John of Springfield,
Ohio, and two step-daughters, Mrs. Ray Batten and Mrs. William Meister, both of
Downers Grove, Ill;13 grandchildren; two brothers and a sister, Ernest of
Summit, Ill.; Gustave and Mrs. Selma Witt, Oakley, Mich.
A daughter
preceded him in death in 1926, and a brother and a sister also preceded him in
death.
All the children, except Mrs. Meister, and his brothers and
sisters were here for the funeral. Others who came from out of town included
Mrs. Alice Bowes and Mrs. Betty Ellsworth, daughters of Mrs. Witt, from Oakland,
Mich.; Alex Marlott, Leonard Marlott and Mrs. Harry Trumbull, of Rothwell, Man.,
Canada, and Mrs. Naomi Runner of Treherne, Man., Can., brothers and sisters of
(remainder of article is cut off).
