John V. Sturner

Funeral services for John V. Sturner, 71, who died
at his home in Bruce Oct. 2, were held from the McElvary Funeral Home at
Ladysmith at 1:30pm Saturday. Burial was made in Pine Hill cemetery, Curtiss,
where a short graveside service was held. The Rev. E.E. Prenslow, Cornell,
officiated.
Mr. Sturner was born March 22, 1880, in Lowell, where he grew
to manhood. As a young man he was employed at Marshall Field’s, Chicago, for
five years and by the Great Northern Railroad for four years. He then came to
Dorchester, where he purchased the Dorchester Feed House.
He was married
to Miss Edith Lapp of Curtiss on April 5, 1903. In 1915 the family moved to
Curtiss, where he purchased the feed warehouse and general merchandise store. He
disposed of his property here in 1928 and purchased land on the Chippewa River
near Holcombe, where he built the Sturner Resort and operated it for 19 years.
He retired in 1947 and lived near Bruce. He had lived in Rusk County for 23
years.
He is survived by his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Verna Riplinger,
Col (rest of article is cut off).
