Funeral services for John V. Sturner, 71, who died at his home in Bruce Oct. 2, were held from the McElvary Funeral Home at Ladysmith at 1:30pm Saturday. Burial was made in Pine Hill cemetery, Curtiss, where a short graveside service was held. The Rev. E.E. Prenslow, Cornell, officiated.

Mr. Sturner was born March 22, 1880, in Lowell, where he grew to manhood. As a young man he was employed at Marshall Field’s, Chicago, for five years and by the Great Northern Railroad for four years. He then came to Dorchester, where he purchased the Dorchester Feed House.

He was married to Miss Edith Lapp of Curtiss on April 5, 1903. In 1915 the family moved to Curtiss, where he purchased the feed warehouse and general merchandise store. He disposed of his property here in 1928 and purchased land on the Chippewa River near Holcombe, where he built the Sturner Resort and operated it for 19 years. He retired in 1947 and lived near Bruce. He had lived in Rusk County for 23 years.

He is survived by his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Verna Riplinger, Col (rest of article is cut off).
