Delbert Martin Winchell (28 Aug 1885 - 16 Apr 1960)

Funeral services were held from Salem Evangelical United Brethren church here (Dorchester, Clark Co., WI) Tuesday afternoon (19 Apr 1960), for Del Winchell, 74, who died Saturday in the Medford hospital. The Rev. Harold Welch, pastor, officiated at the final rites at 2 p. m. and Miss Janis Zier sang "Beautiful Savior" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Lydia Vircks was organist for the services and played accompaniment for the soloist.

Burial was in Dorchester Memorial cemetery beside Mrs. Winchell who died Aug. 29, 1958. Pallbearers were Nick Schumacher, Peter Schumacher, William Wolf, Vincent Tauchen, John Boxrucker, Henry Rau, Albert Schroeder, and Paul Schultz. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service had charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Winchell had been i1l the past several months, and hospitalized intermittently. He had been treated there six days just before his death for a heart attack, coming home last Thursday, but on Friday returned to the hospital, where he died at 6:40 a. m. Saturday, April 16.

Delbert Martin Winchell was born Aug. 28, 1885, in the town of Mayville. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Winchell, he was reared on the family farm two and a quarter miles northwest of the village. He and Clara Krakenberger were married here April 3, 1907, and then took over operation of the home farm. They resided there until 1947, when they moved to the village. Later, they spent some time in the Medford community, and then returned here. For the past year and a half, Mr. Winchell had made his home with his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Max Wilke.

Surviving are five children: Harold Winchell, Vernetta (Mrs. Max Wilke) and Mrs. Nora Lang of this community, Donavan Winchell of Oak Lawn Ill., and Eunice (Mrs. Jack Heier) of Medford; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include a brother, Joel of this community, and two sisters: Mrs. Herman (Edna) Will of Calumet, Minn., and Mrs. Wilbur (Ada) Kayhart of Green Bay.
