Wilhelm Peter (11 Oct 1875 – 27 Jun 1952)
The Rev. F.H.
Sprengler, pastor, officiated at funeral rites for Wilhelm Peter, 76, in St.
Peter’s Lutheran church here (Dorchester, Clark Co., WI) Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.,
following a brief service at 1:30 in the Fuchsgruber funeral parlors, where the
deceased lay in state the first of the week. Burial was in Dorchester Memorial
cemetery, and pallbearers were Gordon Hoyt, George Schmidt, Melvin Schmidt,
Arthur Peter, William Peter, and Alfred Peter. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service had
charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Peter died at the home of his son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Baehr, in the Town of Mayville, at 6:30
p.m. Friday, June 27.
Wilhelm Peter was born Oct. 11, 1875, in Poland, where
he grew to manhood, and on June 4, 1902, was united in marriage with Amalia
Gatzke. In 1911 they came to the United States, settling first in South Dakota,
where they farmed for eight years, coming to Wisconsin in 1919. In 1935 he
retired from farming in the Town of Deer Creek, Taylor County, and moved to
Chicago, where he resided seven years. For the past 10 years he had made his
home with his daughter south of the village.
Survivors include three sons
and daughters, Henry Peter, Stetsonville; Mrs. Arthur H. (Mary) Baehr,
Abbotsford; William Peter, Forest Park, Ill.; Mrs. A.P. (Olga) Neimerer,
Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. George (Betty) Kish, and Michael Peter, Arbor Vitae. His
wife and four children preceded him in death, as did four brothers and sisters.
Four brothers and four sisters also survive.
