Shumway, William P. (18 January 1886 - 8 December
1968)
In a Christmas letter to Mrs. Bertha Sherman of Merrillan, Mrs. P.
G. (“Leat”) McKinney of Van Nuys, Cal., wrote of the death of her brother,
William P. Shumway, a former resident of the Pine Valley and Neillsville area.
Mrs. McKinney is the former Eva Shumway. The Shumway family once owned and lived
on the present Donald Mohr farm and the Alvin Polzin now owns the “old McKinney
place.” The Shumways and the McKinney’s were well known in the area and will be
remembered by the “old-timers”.
William P. Shumway was born in Nebraska,
January 18, 1886, and died December 8, 1968, at Riverside, Calif.
Funeral
services were held December 10 and burial was made in Crestlawn Memorial Park at
Riverside.
Mr. Shumway had been an invalid for about a year. He had
fractured a hip, was unable to walk and moved about in a wheelchair. He had also
lost his voice. His wife preceded him in death.
