Marlene Pecher (04 Jun 1942 - 17 Mar 1960)
Funeral rites
were held Monday for two of Dorchester's young people whose lives were snuffed
out in a Highway 13 tragedy early the morning of March 17. Final rites for
Marlene Pecher, 17, who died in St. Joseph's hospital, Marshfield, about 7 :00
a. m. last Thursday following the accident in which she was fatally injured
about 2:30 a. m, were held from St. Louis Catholic church at 10:30 a. m.
Services for Douglas Scherer, 17, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the
accident, were held from the Peace church hall at 2:00 p. m. Both were interred
in Memorial Cemetery here.
The Rev. Father Gerald F. Schuh, pastor,
offered the requiem mass for Marlene and the children's choir under the
direction of Sister Bene, choir director and organist, sang for the rites.
Pallbearers were Dale Smolke, Dennis Pecher, Carlton Pecher, Duane Pecher,
Steve Mertens and Philip Hollmann. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service had charge of
arrangements.
Marlene Pecher was born June 4, 1942, in the town of Holton
to Mr. and Mrs. William Pecher. She attended St. Louis grade school, and was a
senior in Dorchester high school at the time of her death.
The family for
the past 11 years has resided in the town of Mayville just east of the village.
They moved to Colby when Marlene was four, living there a year and a half, and
then about year in Stetsonville before moving here.
A member of the
library club at the high school, Marlene also sang in the chorus earlier, and
was a member of junior prom royalty's court last year.
Surviving are the
parents, two sisters, Bonnie and Lenore, and a brother, Gerald.
Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral services came from
LaGrange and Chicago, Ill.; Antigo, Colby, Abbotsford, Stetsonville, Milan, and
Athens.
