Car Turned Turtle (31 JUL
1915)
Saturday evening about eight o’clock, Gus Ayers’ car turned turtle
at the bridge in front of Sol Joseph’s farm south of town. Ayers attempted to
turn out for a team and as the weeds had grown up along the embankment he
thought the road was wider than it really was. The car rolled down the
embankment about twelve feet, turning completely over and smashing the top and
wind shield. The three occupants of the car, Ayers, Bob Breed and John Bast,
were able to extricate themselves and it is strange to say that none of them
were hurt. The embankment is very steep at that point and the road quite narrow.
The car was pulled up into the road and being a Ford, it was started up and run
back to town, minus the top and wind shield.
