Friederica "Rica" Habeck (18 Jan 1878 - 5 Mar 1956)

Dorchester-Final rites were held Friday afternoon at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for Mrs. John Habeck, who died at her home here March 5 at the age of 78. The Rev. F. H. Sprengler officiated and burial was made in Memorial cemetery.

Organist Mrs. Max Vircks accompanied soloist Janice Zier for the hymn, “Heaven is My Home.” Another hymn, “Abide With Me,” was sung by members of the Ladies Aid and Sewing Circle. Pallbearers were John Doberstein, Richard Schmidt, Eric Beisner, John Busse, William Riehl and Elroy Broeske.

Rica Scheelk was born near Peshigo, WI, and came to the Dorchester area in 1885 with her parents, August and Sophia (Scheller) Scheelk. The family settled on a farm south of the village.

She and John Habeck were married June 7, 1903, in the "old" St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Dorchester. They had one son, Elmer F., who was born in 1904 and died in 1925.
