Edward Meyer (4 Nov 1885 - 9 Dec 1970)

Funeral services were held Friday morning at St. Louis’ Catholic church, Dorchester, for Edward Meyer, 85-year-old Dorchester resident who died Wednesday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, where he had been hospitalized following an apparent heart attack at his home. Rev. Gerald Schuh officiated and burial took place in Dorchester Memorial cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Bruce, James, Larry, Donald, Gary and Kenneth Meyer.

The body lay in state at Maurina funeral home, Dorchester, where three rosaries were recited Thursday afternoon and evening.

Mr. Meyer was born November 4, 1885, at Dorchester and received his education at the Hilltop grade school. He was married at Dorchester to Anna Geiger, who preceded him in death May 28, 1958.

The couple farmed in the town of Mayville, Clark county, until their retirement in 1954 when they moved to Dorchester. Mr. Meyer was a member of St. Louis’ Catholic church and the Men’s Catholic Order of Foresters and had served eight years as supervisor for Mayville township.

Surviving are seven sons, Raymond and Clifford of Medford, Ralph of Park Falls, and Alvin, Art, Roy and Paul of Dorchester; two daughters, Leona, Mrs. Alphonse Diers of Marshfield and Sister Evelyn Meyer O.S.M. of Ladysmith, 40 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Charles of Dorchester and Emil of Chelsea and two sisters, Lizzy, Mrs. Ed Guth and Mrs. Rose Tessmer of Dorchester.

Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
