He had resided in this area from the age of seven until about a quarter century ago. Mr. Sauter had been in active health until suffering a heart attack last Thursday. He entered a hospital for treatment on Saturday and Tuesday returned home where he succumbed to another attack at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 22.

Funeral services will be held from St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Tomahawk, tomorrow (Friday) at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Schaadt officiating. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery, about 3:00 or 3:30. Dorchester people may view the deceased at the cemetery here. He lies in state at Nick & Sons funeral home in Tomahawk, now until 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Charles Sauter was born May 19, 1877, in Schaffrausen, Switzerland. In 1882 he was brought to the United States when his parents immigrated.

He and Elizabeth Tessmer were married here in 1904. Some years after their marriage, the couple moved to a farm northeast of the village in the town of Holton, which they owned and operated until moving to Tomahawk in 1935. During the years on the farm, he also operated a service station and tavern on the present location of Seidel, Inc.

Surviving are his widow, three children: Lawrence Sauter of Princeton, Elmer Sauter of Hartford, and Amanda (Mrs. Russell Lind) of Elmwood Park, Ill., and eight grandchildren. A son, Harry, died in 1954.

Also surviving are two brothers, August and Edwin of the village, and three sisters: Mrs. Tillie Weideman of the town of Mayville, Mrs. Minnie Kalepp of Abbotsford, and Mrs. Alma Marcott of Phillips. Two sisters, Mary and Louise, and three brothers, Joseph, Otto and Albert also preceded him in death.
