Fire at Westboro
A telegram
was received early Sunday morning from Duncan & Taylor at Westboro, announcing
that a fire was raging about their mill, and asking that one of our fire engines
be sent to their assistance.
Accordingly a special train was procured
and the hand engine placed aboard and sent up in charge of Mr. Geo. Miller, the
foreman. Some members of the company also went up on the train, which arrived at
Westboro about 11 o’clock.
The fire had caught amongst the slabs, and
despite the efforts of all the men at Westboro, was gradually but surely making
towards Duncan & Taylor’s mill, which but for the timely arrival of the engine
would have been burned.
The engine remained there until Monday, and was
brought down on the passenger train.
