Grottke, Henry C. (29 November
1890 - 4 February 1969)
Henry C. Grottke, 78, of Rt. 1 Chili, died
Tuesday in Neillsville, of pneumonia and old age complications. Funeral services
will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Christ Lutheran Church in Chili. The Rev.
Roland Roehrs will officiate. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. He was
a lifelong member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
Mr. Grottke was born
November 29, 1890, in the Town of Lynn, the third and youngest son of J. David
Grottke and Dorthea Huebner. He received his education at the Popple Grove
School in the Town of Lynn, and also attended the Zion parochial school in
Granton. As a young man he worked for 15 winters in the logging camps of
northern Wisconsin, in the Tripoli area.
On June 4, 1926, he was married
to the former Clara Reich, who survives. Their marriage took place in the Zion
Lutheran Church in Granton. Mr. Grottke had purchased wilderness land in the
Town of Fremont, where they went to live following their marriage. Mr. Grottke
worked this wild land for many years to establish the present family farm, which
was his home until his death.
Survivors besides his wife are: a son,
Henry E. of Chili; two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Wanda) Garbisch of Arpin and
Mrs. John D. (Laura) Sandstrom of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Fred, of
Neillsville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being made
y the Gilbertson Funeral Home.
