Lucille M. Zimmerman, 83, of Owen, passed away on
Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Clark County Health Care Center after a short
illness.
Lucille Jennings was born on November 1, 1928 in Withee, and
graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1946, after which she worked at her
parents' Windmill Resort, Jim Falls, and later at the Sunbeam Tavern outside of
Chippewa Falls.
She married Bob Zimmerman on January 3, 1951 at Holy
Ghost Church in Chippewa Falls.
Lucille, Bob and her parents moved to
Thorp to run a dairy farm and the Lombard Tavern on what is now Highway X, three
miles east of Thorp. In 1967, Lucille moved to Owen and began work at the
"County Farm" (Clark County Health Care Center) as a nurse's aide. During her 29
years at the Health Care Center, she worked in several positions and rose to the
position of laundry supervisor.
After her retirement, she continued to
volunteer at the Health Care Center, taking care of the flower plantings for
several years. Lucille served several terms as Ward 1 alderman in Owen, and
recently as a member of the County Community Services Board. Lucille was an avid
gardener and antique collector, and a frequent eBay user for finding and trading
glassware, ceramics and costume jewelry.
She will be greatly missed by
her family and many friends. Lucille was preceded in death by her father,
Stanley Zielanis; step-father, Berlie Jennings; her mother, Ethel Mattson; and
her beloved husband, Bob Zimmerman.
She is survived by her daughter,
Cheryl of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, David (Mary) of Medford; and granddaughter,
Sarah.
