Seidel, Walter "Wally" L. (28 NOV 1912 - 28 JUN 2012)

Walter "Wally" L. Seidel, 99, Abbotsford, died on Thursday, June 28 at Golden Living Center - Continental Manor in Abbotsford, where he had resided the past 18 months.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Little Black. Pallbearers are Mike Helfert, Larry and Joe Cypher, Tom Geiger, Brian Lehman and Frank Bohte.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

Walter Seidel was born on November 28, 1912 in the Town of Little Black to the late Stephen and Mary (Rauchfuss) Seidel. He attended Liberty State Graded School in the Town of Little Black.

On October 25, 1938 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, he married Catherine Cypher, who survives.

He worked on the family farm in the Town of Little Black, until moving to Medford in 1963, and also worked at Damm Brothers sawmill in Stetsonville, Colby Box factory and Midway Telephone Company in Medford as a lineman and repairman until his retirement. They moved to the Colby Retirement Community in 2010.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he also did volunteer work, Catholic Order of Foresters and Catholic Knights of Columbus. He served on the Liberty State Graded School board and the Dorchester Co-op board. He enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing, making rag rugs and tying quilts.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Edward (Clyda) of Goleta, Calif., Dennis (Jeanette) of Colby, Ray of Schofield and Judith (Art) Bartnik of Wausau; a daughter-in-law, Linda Seidel of West Allis; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard in 2005; two granddaughters, Jennifer Bartnik in 1970 and Jennifer Seidel in 1991; and a daughter-in-law, Ursula (Ray) Seidel in 2006.
