Romang, August (11 June 1883-
1969)
August Romang, 85, of Athens, brother of Mrs. Christ Keiner of
Greenwood, died March 17, at the Colonial Manor in Wausau. On May 15 he was
moved from the Memorial Hospital in Medford to the Colonial Manor and had been
there ever since.
Mr. Romang, son of Gottfried and Elise (Steffen)
Romang, was born June 11, 1883, in Bern, Switzerland. In May, 1884, at the age
of one year he came to Black Creek Falls, now Athens. He was a cheesemaker and
farmer until he retired and moved to Athens.
Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. Lawrence (Virginia) Simpson of Athens, six grandchildren, Larry, Gail,
Sherri, Kathy, Michael and Denise Simpson; and a sister, Mrs. Christ (Elise)
Keiner of Greenwood.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon
from the Christ united Church in Athens. The Rev. Kenneth Dix officiated. Burial
was made in the Athens Village Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Emanuel,
Donald, Robert, Edward and Elmer Romang, and Lawrence Neuenschwander. Gary
Nehrbass sang, “My Faith looks up to Thee” and “The Lord is my Shepherd,”
accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Morris Erickson.
Relatives attending
from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Severson and Miss Louise Keiner of
Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mallow and Mrs. Gordon Hanson of Oconomowoc;
Robert Romang of Marathon; Elmer Romang of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Krahn of
Arkdale; Mrs. Gordon Bever, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Steinmetz and Mrs. Harvey Schmidt of
West Bend.
