Ida Sorensen (17 Jul 1866 - 15 Feb 1950)
Funeral
services were held at Ogema Friday for Mrs. Ida J. Sorensen, 83, former resident
here (Dorchester, Clark Co., WI) who died in St. Paul, Minn., Feb 15. The Rev.
Mr. Nelson officiated at the rites in the Ogema Baptist church at 2 p.m., and
burial was in the Ogema cemetery beside her husband.
Ida J. Lansworth was
born July 17, 1866, in Primrose, and came to Dorchester in her youth, when her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lansworth, moved here. They lived for many years on
what was later known as the Mead place, now owned by Elmer Genrich. She and
Ernest Sorensen were married here in 1886 and resided on a farm west of the
village. They moved away a number of years ago, and he died in St Paul in 1945.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Anthony Yocum, St Paul; three sisters,
Mrs. C. B. (Anna) Stanley, Clintonville; Mrs. A. (Alma) Fryk, Ogema; Mrs. C.
E.(Myrl) Oden, Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandsons, Donald Yocum, Detroit, Mich.
and Paul Yocum, St Paul; six great-grandchildren, and several nephews and
nieces.
Ernest Sorensen was a brother of the late Andrew Sorensen of this
village.
Note added by Linda Mertens:
Ida's parents, John and Susan
(Myrland) Lansworth were among the very first settlers in the Dorchester area
(1872).
The Sorenson's, too, were early settlers (1877) and neighbors of
the Lansworth's.
