Voelker, Roland “Barney” (12 MAY 1910 - 2 APR 2013)

Roland “Barney” Voelker, 102, of Abbotsford, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.

Roland was born May 12, 1910, to August and Anna (Koeser) Voelker outside of Colby. He received his education at a school house in rural Colby. Roland and Marchia Flick were joined in marriage on August 10, 1932. He was a blacksmith in Abbotsford until retirement at the age of 93. Roland enjoyed fishing and working.

He is survived by his children, John Voelker of Calif., Alice (Late Duane) Socwell of SD., and Richard (Pat) Voelker of Abbotsford; his grandchildren, Dawn, Diane, David, Todd, Bruce and a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Roland is preceded in death by his wife, Marchia; and his brothers and sisters, Elmer Voelker, Caroline Voelker, Oscar Voelker, Marvin Voelker, and Norma Flick.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2012, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (6023 Hwy. 13 North of Dorchester). A private burial was held in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Maurina Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.
